THIS WEEK'S REVIEW: THE SECOND CHANCE |
The Second Chance, released in theatres in 2006, is a movie that is about love & forgiveness, and is a wake up call to the church.
The Second Chance is about two churches. The Rock Church located in the suburbs, and Second Chance Community Church located in the "bad side of town." The pastor of Second Chance Community Church is frustrated at The Rock Church because all it does is give money to them instead of actually coming down to the church and giving physical help. The senior pastor of The Rock Church has a son that is about to take over the church, so he commissions he son to take some time to go to Second Chance Community Church and work down there. The two viewpoints and mindsets collide as the drama unfolds.
The Second Chance answers many questions. If you love someone, how far would you go to help them? What does love look like? Does the modern church show love the way it should? How far would you go to forgive someone?
The great part is that there are MANY different nuggets of truth you can get from the movie. Everyone watching will get something different when they watch it.
One of The Second Chance's main actors is Michael W. Smith, who is one of the most well known Christian-themed music artists. Not only that, there are cameos by Christian rapper Pettidee and Lisa Kimmey of Out of Eden.
The unique part about The Second Chance is that there's swearing in the movie. The d-word, the h-word, and the a-word are used in the film. However, the movie isn't laced with it, where there is swearing every minute, but it's there. But what makes The Second Chance unique is the perspective it takes on it. Later in the film, one of the characters that swears says that he is trying to stop swearing. Also, a person in the movie tells another person that swears that God doesn't like it when you swear.
I highly recommend this movie to anyone, especially church leaders. It's really an eye opener and it really forces you to look inside yourself and see if you acting differently or the same as the characters in the movie. It has a very honest apporach and shows a lot of the drama that goes on behind-the-scenes at mega churches. It's a much needed movie. Make sure to check it out on DVD today!
